Oaka

Oaka

Once you get past the disappointing realisation that this is basically a restaurant with a bar welded on, it's easy to like Oaka (or, to give it its full name, Oaka @ The Mansion House). Sure, the owners have probably jumped the gun on any nineties revival (uncomfortable bar area, 'pan-Asian' cuisine) but the beer is good. Oakham are one of Britain's most reliable breweries, and you'll find up to nine of their cask ales here. Hopheads will opt for Green Devil IPA (a little muddled on cask compared to the magisterial bottled version) but it's hard to beat Citra or JHB for session-strength beers. There's also Camden Hells on the bar and The Kernel in the fridge. Be warned: ales are served in third, two-thirds and pint portions. They're not cheap, either.
