There’s a cartoon in the men’s loos (sorry, ladies) at The Union Tavern which tells you all you need to know about this pub. It depicts a griffin (Fuller’s) standing firm on the deck of a sinking ship as a lamb (Young’s) leaps off. The Ship is London, the cartoon dates from 2006: so much has changed since then. One look at the bar at The Union Tavern – a pub owned by Fuller’s that is devoted to serving the best of London’s beer – tells you how alive the capital’s brewing scene is now. Expect to find The Kernel, Moncada, East London Brewing et al on cask/keg, and some bottled crackers from further afield in the fridge.
