Birdcage, The

By rights, this place ought to be the focus of anguished Guardian features. Once a locals' boozer known for its karaoke nights, it's now a part of the Draft House chain, catering to the area's population of fashionably-dressed young middle-class folk. As we know, fashionably-dressed middle-class folk like good beer, and there's plenty of it here (even if  some of it is on the pricy side: £22 for Cantillon Kriek?). There are only three handpumps, but the keg options - which included beers from Orbit, Redchurch, Beavertown, Mikkeller and Siren on a recent visit - make up for that. And there are pies. Cockneys eat pies, right?
