Carpenter’s Arms - Cheshire Street

Yes, there is a big picture of the Kray twins on the wall but don’t let that put you off: it’s about the only drawback to this charming little pub. Beer – much of it Belgian - is a big part of what makes this place work: there’s Deus, Mort Subite gueuze and Duvel plus interesting stuff from the US, too, like the Anchor Steam Bock that is among the keg offerings. Food is French-accented: another plus. All in all, this is the sort of place where you might pop in for one and end up stumbling out hours later.
