Charles Lamb, The

The Charles Lamb

It’s hard not to be charmed by this French-accented street-corner pub. Everything appears to have been done with care: there are hops hanging from the ceiling, there are French bistro menus and London maps on the wall and the bar food – in particular a good-size Scotch egg that would make a decent lunch for all but the most greedy – is perfectly-pitched. The same is true of the beer. There are four handpumps on which you might expect to find the likes of Dark Star (Hophead is the house ale), Triple FFF and Cottage Brewing. Bottles come from The Kernel, St Stefanus and Goose Island, among others.
