The Crown and Shuttle

Where once you'd find strippers, now there's hipsters and suits. This revived Victorian boozer may have a colourful past but its position halfway between the ironic jumper heartlands and The City makes for a fascinating Friday afternoon of people-watching, if that's your bag. The decoration errs towards scruffy chic and the beer has been carefully chosen, with plenty of decent stuff on cask, keg and bottle (Thornbridge, Meantime, Partizan and Harbour, among many others). The back room is dominated by a huge Meantime tank dispensing 'brewery-fresh' lager. This is a big place with a sizeable garden: all in all, a very decent pub indeed.
